Maps & atlases
The Encyclopedia Britannica is a good general source for maps and information on geographical features, e.g. mountain ranges, rivers etc. Click on the "World Atlas" link, or enter for your location name in the search box. The place maps can be printed and saved.
Credo Reference has two good geographical encyclopedias: Collins World Atlas Gazetteer and Miriam-Websters Geographical Dictionary. Use these for more detail, latitude and longitude of locations etc. They also have maps that can be printed and saved.
Google Maps and Google Earth are excellent resources as well.
The U.S. government's Geological Survey is a major resource for geographical data and maps of all sorts. (See one of their RSS feeds on the right.)
The library also has many atlases and other geographical resources in hard copy. Not just place maps, but atlases on subjects like history, ethnicity, weather and more. Use our catalog to search for them, or ask a librarian to help you.
